By Times Reporter AS the 84th Zambia Agriculture and Commercial Show (ZACS) opens tomorrow in Lusaka, the management of the show society has been overwhelmed by the number of exhibitors as all the stands have been taken up.
Agricultural and Commercial Show Society (ACSZ) publicity chairperson Carolyn Silwamba said all was set for the five-day showpiece, as the preparations have gone according to plan. “The stands have all been taken up, we don’t have space anymore,” Ms Silwamba said in an interview yesterday. On Monday, ACSZ president Elizabeth Nkumbula said the turnout was so overwhelming that the society could run out of the exhibitors’ pavilions. The society has reported that the more than 900 local and foreign exhibitors from 15 countries are set for the show, which will be held under the theme: ‘Sustainable Development’. Some of the foreign companies are from Germany, Japan, Kenya, China, Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Egypt, India and Iran. Others that confirmed participation or were already in the country by yesterday are from Tanzania, Angola, Ghana and Nigeria. This year’s Agricultural and Commercial Show would seek to maintain the momentum to sustain growth in the economy, as it was the basis on which empowerment was anchored. The theme, ‘Sustainable Development’ is born out of the continued satisfactory performance of the economy. It is envisaged that the effect of continued positive performance would trickle down and benefit the impoverished and empower them. Malawian President Mbingu Wa Mutharika is expected to officially open the show.
